Why Social Security Payments This Week Are Sparking Conversations

A new round of Social Security payments is set to be issued this week to some beneficiaries.

More than 70 million Americans receive Social Security, including retirement, disability and survivor benefits. The program is the nation’s largest social safety net and distributes billions of dollars in payments each year.

Given the number of people it serves, the Social Security Administration (SSA) does not send every payment on the same day. Instead, benefits are distributed according to a staggered schedule throughout each month.
