Danny Masterson's Uphill Battle as Appeal Denied in Rape Conviction

Danny Masterson is not getting out of prison anytime soon after an appeals court denied his attempt to overturn his 2023 conviction. Us can confirm on Tuesday, October 27, that a three-judge panel rejected each of Masterson’s arguments for an appeal. According to the 89-page ruling viewed by Us, the panel confirmed his 30 years to life prison sentence, after Masterson was initially found guilty of two counts of forcible rape, garnering two consecutive sentences of 15 years to life on each. Masterson was found guilty in spring 2023 of raping two women at his home in 2003. The jurors were unable to reach a verdict on the third count involving the That ‘70s Show alum’s former girlfriend, who alleged she was sexually assaulted by the actor in 2001. In Masterson’s appeal, his attorneys argued that the trial judge, Judge Charlaine Olmedo, was biased against Scientology, which the accused practices. The Ranch alum’s legal team claimed that Olmedo made a series of remarks during trial about the religion that allegedly affected his First Amendment rights. During the trial, Olmedo allowed a former Scientologist to testify as an expert on the church's beliefs and practices. The prosecution claimed that the victims, who were all part of the church but have since left, didn’t report the alleged attacks right away due to fear of retaliation for violating a Scientology rule about going to the police. The panel, however, found on Tuesday that the judge’s statements showed “no animus or departure from neutrality regarding Scientology.” “The jury in this case was not asked to determine the truth or falsity of Scientology doctrine or beliefs,” the appeals court wrote. “Admission of Scientology evidence for those purposes did not contravene the First Amendment.” Masterson’s lawyers also claimed his conviction should be reversed back on the 10-year statute of limitations period, which they claimed “barred defendant’s prosecution for forcible rape.” The appeals court denied the claim, stating that it was “inapplicable where, as here, forcible rape offenses were committed against more than one victim.” Additionally, Masterson’s legal team argued that the case be overturned due to evidentiary rulings, claiming their client’s request for judicial notice of code of civil procedure “violated his federal and state constitutional rights to confrontation and due process,” per the filing. Once again, the judges denied Masterson’s request, ruling that it was not a violation of “his federal or state constitutional rights to confrontation and due process.” The appeals court argued that the trial court’s decision to exclude certain evidence concerning the possible effect on the victims’ pending civil action “did not preclude defendant from presenting evidence of the victims’ possible financial motives as a basis for challenging their credibility.” Furthermore, the panel denied a separate habeas corpus petition that claimed Masterson didn’t get an adequate defense. The actor’s appellate attorneys, Cliff Gardner and Eric Multhaup, revealed on Tuesday that they will appeal his case to the California Supreme Court and continue pursuing a separate habeas petition. “The appellate court's decision to deny this appeal and deny the habeas corpus petition ignores the extraordinary new evidence that has been before them for more than a year. That evidence includes statements by both complaining witnesses that their sexual experiences with Danny Masterson were both consensual and positive," Gardner said in a statement obtained by Us. "Danny is serving a life sentence for crimes he did not commit. No one in California — not defendants and not victims who have actually been the victim of a sex crime — is safer by virtue of today's unfortunate decision.” Multhaup, meanwhile, called the denial of the appeal and the habeas corpus petition "fundamentally wrong." "The habeas petition contains striking evidence of innocence that was never presented to the jury. For example, long before she claimed forcible rape, one of the complaining witnesses confided in two of her closest friends that her sexual experience with Danny Masterson was her ‘best sex ever.’ Now, years later, she has accused him of forcible rape and is suing him for damages," the attorney alleged in a statement on Tuesday. "The other complaining witness — again long before she made any claim of forcible rape — had a catch-up conversation with a longtime friend who had also had sex with Danny Masterson, and they compared notes about their respective experiences in a light-hearted and favorable manner. Years later, she too accused him of forcible rape and has joined the civil lawsuit suing him for damages. None of this evidence was presented to the jury. None of it." Multhaup added: "The Court of Appeal did not address any of the exculpatory evidence that was contained in the habeas corpus petition, and instead justified the denial with a one-paragraph summary of the one-sided evidence presented by the prosecution. Chris Harrison's Bold Response to 'The Bachelor' Legal Threat

Former Bachelor host Chris Harrison publicly responded to the ABC dating show sending a cease-and-desist letter over his new series The Vow. “Sounds like somebody misses somebody really bad,” Harrison, 55, told Entertainment Tonight on Monday, October 26. “Jealousy's a tough thing. Green's not a great color on anybody, is it?” The reality TV personality also responded to critics who said The Vow feels like a “knockoff” of The Bachelor. “You know, they haven't seen it yet, and I would just urge people to watch and then judge, and judge for yourself on the quality and the authenticity and the intention of the show,” he said. The Vow, hosted and cocreated by Harrison with his wife, Lauren Zima, is a dating show in which 10 women vie for the heart of bachelor Jace Cates. Though the concept sounds similar to the Bachelor franchise, Harrison told ET that The Vow has more of a focus on faith and long-lasting connections. “Lauren and I were talking about what we were going to do, and the more we saw this kind of reemergence and this renaissance of young people going to church, seeking faith, seeking kind of foundation in their lives, we thought this is an interesting kind of niche to dive into, and more and more, we kind of cultivated this idea and thought, ‘Can you find love in this modern world?’” he explained. Harrison continued, “What if we raise the bar and raise the stakes and made it as authentic and intentional as you possibly could, and try and take away every hurdle that would get in their way?” Harrison said they intentionally chose not to have “elimination ceremonies” and “trinkets that are given out throughout” the series. “If and when you see a relationship is not heading in the right direction or not happening, then you break up and you do it face-to-face, like real people do and real people should,” he added. “The lengths we went to cast this show, the people that are on it and what we're going for, I think will be very different, very telling when everybody sees it. And I can't wait for everybody to see it.” Shortly after The Vow was announced in September, multiple outlets reported that WBTV, which produces The Bachelor, issued a cease-and-desist letter to Fox Nation, accusing The Vow of copying its dating show. In the letter, WBTV claimed that promos for The Vow show “a plain attempt to capitalize on and ‘ride on the coattails’ of WB’s instantly recognizable intellectual property and the Franchise’s goodwill in violation of, inter alia, state and federal trademark, copyright, and unfair competition laws. Without having seen the Series itself, we cannot comment on it and reserve all rights in connection therewith. To be clear, though, we have no objection to Fox and Lionsgate releasing a dating show hosted by Chris Harrison in and of itself. But thus far, Fox and Lionsgate have promoted the Series entirely on the back of the Franchise, not on its own merits.” The letter specifically cited the use of roses in the promo, claiming that the flower is a known marker of the Bachelor franchise, as well as a mansion that seemingly bears a resemblance to the famous “Bachelor Mansion.” Fox Nation denied attempts to replicate The Bachelor, arguing that the show does not own the rights to use roses as a motif, nor does it own the rights to the term “the bachelor” when referring to an unmarried man. “Your letter also focuses myopically on certain stills from the trailer, while omitting that its clear purpose is to convey that The Vow ‘offers a different approach’ from other dating shows ‘by placing the focus on meaningful relationships, commitment and building a life together,’” Katherine Moran Meeks, Fox News Media’s executive vice president and general counsel, wrote in the network’s response. The Vow premieres on Fox Nation on November 11.

Chrisley, 29, said on the Tuesday, October 27, episode of her "Unlocked" podcast, announcing her engagement to fiancé Jason and revealing her pregnancy. "And that's probably part of the reason why I kept a lot of it quiet, because I know how brutal the public can be. But I genuinely do not care." Chrisley continued, "I have always said, 'I would rather [have] 20 phenomenal, unbelievable years with someone than 50 just [fine] years.' Like, the amount of love and respect that we have, we have so many dreams and we dream together, we work together ... we want to have life experiences with each other. And I think that's when you know you have the right person, when you don't feel like you have to escape them at times." The former reality star referred to Jason as her "best friend," adding, "We do everything together. ... And it's just such an amazing, fulfilling feeling to finally find your person. And I'm there. So yes, the age difference. So what?" Chrisley also pointed out that her fiancé "does not look his age, nor does he act his age." "His body is great. His mind is even sharper. So I really don't care, OK?" she added. "Like, this person is the love of my life. And it made all the heartbreak that I've gone through worth it. And all the heartbreak taught me something. It taught me what I want, what I don't want, what I should accept, what I shouldn't accept." Chrisley announced via Instagram on Tuesday that she is pregnant with the couple's first baby. Savannah Chrisley is celebrating another major milestone after announcing her pregnancy. During the Tuesday, October 27, episode of her "Unlocked" podcast, Chrisley, 29, revealed her boyfriend, Jason, proposed during a getaway to their "happy place" in the Cayman Islands. "Jason and I started dating in July, so ... five months [later]," she said. "Timing means nothing, guys, OK? But back in December, Jason and I were in the Cayman Islands, and little did I know, he had a ring in his backpack." Chrisley joked she "didn't have to snoop" to find it. "Jason was getting a charger out of his backpack, I think I called him in the other room," she recalled. "He came in there and then he left a box on the counter. I was like, 'Oh, my God, is that what I think it is?' But I didn't know, to be, you know, 100 percent." According to the Chrisley Knows Best alum, the couple took a trip to another island, which was "extremely secluded." "It was the coolest thing ever," she said. "But ... there was a point in time to where I saw that he was, like, distracted. And I'm like, 'What's going on?'" Jason was apparently texting a friend of Chrisley's and telling her he thought they were in the perfect place to propose. The friend picked up the ring and flew by helicopter to the island, later telling the couple their flight that afternoon had been delayed an hour. As the pair got ready to make their way to the airport, Jason led Chrisley to a setup with flowers and champagne. "I just think he's being sweet, like, I had no idea ... I had been in the ocean all day. I was in a swimsuit," she recalled. "I had hair, makeup not done, none of that. So I had no idea." The moment took a "hilarious" turn when Jason couldn't find the ring, which was hidden in a tree, but he eventually proposed. "When he gave me the ring, he was like, 'Before I open this, I just want you to know that this is just an expression of love to you. This can be whatever you want it to be. This can be an engagement ring, a promise ring, a cocktail ring for all I care. I just want you to know how much I love you,'" Chrisley said. "And there was no pressure ever put on me to, like, 'You have to accept this as this.'" Chrisley acknowledged that the proposal came "really quick" into their relationship, but she didn't care. "I feel like you could find out more about a person in three months than you did in a whole year of being with them," she asserted. The former reality star was "in such shock" during the special moment that she began to cry. She raved over the "insane" ring, which she said was "everything I ever wanted." Chrisley noted, "It was just the most magical, amazing experience [in] the entire world. It was all filmed, and so we have videos of it, photos of it, and that's just us. And I absolutely love him for who he is and creating those special moments for us." Chrisley also announced her pregnancy via Instagram on Tuesday, adding on her podcast that the unexpected timing made the couple adjust their wedding plans. "Our wedding was scheduled for January 9 of 2027," she explained. "And let me tell you, it was going to be a phenomenal time. It still is going to be a phenomenal time. It has just been pushed a few months to May of 2027. And that is because we got the surprise of a lifetime." Though she had been going through a fertility journey, Chrisley said her pregnancy was a "major plot twist." "We both were so shocked, so thrilled," she gushed. Convicted Killer Jacob Morley's Escape Sparks Statewide Manhunt

A man convicted of murder is at large after he escaped a Tennessee prison where he’s been serving a life sentence, authorities said. Jacob Allen Morley escaped the Northwest Correctional Complex in Lake County the evening of Sunday, October 25, according to the Tennessee Department of Correction. He’s wanted by the department and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. Morley, 28, “should be considered dangerous,” the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said in a Monday, October 26, Facebook post. He’s been added to the state’s most wanted list. Morley is described as 6 feet tall, weighing around 240 to 270 pounds, with green eyes and brown hair. Officials are calling on the public’s help in locating him. “Residents in the area are asked to check home security and doorbell cameras, trail and hunting cameras, and other surveillance systems for possible sightings or activity,” the Tennessee Department of Correction said in an update shared to Facebook on Monday. “Anyone who sees Morley or has information about his whereabouts should not approach him,” the department warned. Morley was sentenced to life in prison after he was convicted of first-degree murder, aggravated burglary, tampering with evidence, evading arrest and vandalism in connection with the death of Cody Birchfield, according to authorities. Birchfield was considered missing until his body was found buried below Morley’s home in March 2022, WJHL-TV reported. The Carter County Sheriff's Office started investigating Birchfield’s disappearance in February 2022 following the last sighting of him in Elizabethton, according to The Tennessean. Morley was found guilty of murder in Birchfield’s death in February 2025, before he was sentenced in the case in June 2025, per the TV station. Morley allegedly escaped the Northwest Correctional Complex, which has the capacity to house up to 1,776 male inmates, by slipping through a fence, according to the Associated Press. As of Monday, investigators “have searched and cleared buildings and structures in the surrounding area, and the Tennessee Highway Patrol has deployed aviation assets and state troopers to assist with the search,” the Tennessee Department of Correction said. Authorities are offering $2,500 for information leading to Morley’s arrest and urge anyone who sees Morley to call 911 or the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation at 1-800-TBI-FIND.

Amy Duggar appears to have had enough of cousin Josh Duggar’s multiple attempts to appeal his child pornography conviction and subsequent prison sentence. “Give it a rest already,” Amy, 40, shared on the Monday, October 26, episode of the “Fire Chats: The Mindfire Pod,” hosted by Carrie Berk. “Here’s what I think: Narcissistic people don’t like to be wrong. They don’t like someone questioning their character and making them look like they’re this horrible person, and they don’t think they are. This is all what narcissistic people do. This is textbook, exactly the way a narcissist handles the situation.” Josh, 38, was convicted of receiving and possessing child sexual abuse materia in December 2021. He was later ordered to serve 12 years behind bars. Josh has maintained his innocence despite his conviction, alleging there were “errors in the admission of forensic evidence” at his trial. As a result, he continues to file appeals with his legal team. “I find it comical at this stage of his sentence. Just rot in there,” Amy continued of Josh’s many — and unsuccessful — appeals. “Will you just stay in there? What do you think is going to happen when you get out? What does he think? Does he think he’s going to go back to normal life and have a job? The whole thing is a train wreck that I can’t look away from.” When asked if she believes Josh will be released from prison earlier than expected, Amy admits she finds the odds to be unlikely. “There’s no way he needs to be out,” she said. “There’s no way there needs to be any kind of freedom for that man. No shot.” Josh is tentatively scheduled to leave prison in  February 2033. His release date, however, has been pushed back on multiple occasions. In June, Josh and his legal team filed another appeal after a judge denied his motion to vacate his conviction. While his cousin is less than enthused about his many legal filings, Josh continues to have the support of his wife, Anna Duggar, while he remains incarcerated. The couple share seven children together, with Anna, 38, raising all of the children back home in Arkansas. Recalling the family’s highly-publicized legal  drama, Amy appears to have no regrets that she has distanced herself from a majority of her relatives. “It’s a circus. These are not my monkeys. It’s horrible,” she claimed. “I’m related to them. Yes, we’re related by blood, but they don’t know my life.
