Wrestling World Shocked as Referee Dies After Piledriver Move

Professional wrestler El Hilo de Fishman has been arrested and faces a potential manslaughter charge after a move he executed during a match resulted in the death of a referee. The incident occurred in Hidalgo, Mexico on Wednesday, October 7, when Fishman, 36, performed a preplanned piledriver on referee Gerardo German Pineda, known as El Buho. A piledriver is a pro wrestling move in which an individual turns someone upside down and slams them head-first into the mat. Pineda, 75, went into the mat and never got back up, according to Cageside Seats. Reports from the event indicate that he was not immediately helped because fans and event workers thought he was feigning injury as part of the stunt. When paramedics eventually arrived, the referee was pronounced dead at the scene. Because of the potential dangers of the move, the piledriver has often been banned in WWE and other wrestling promotions. Fishman is now in the custody of the Hidalgo State Attorney General’s Office, according to Spanish language wrestling outlet Super Luchas. His arrest opened a 48-hour window during which he must be presented to a judge for a hearing that will determine if he can be formally charged. If charged and convicted, he could face five to 15 years in prison. Mexican wrestling promotion El Patron Lucha Libre released a statement on Wednesday confirming the “unfortunate events.” “Our company is attentive to the developing situation and has arranged accompaniment and legal assistance for Hijo de Fishman, so that the corresponding process is carried out in accordance with the law and before the competent authorities,” the statement read. The statement continued, “The lawyer and legal representative of the company maintains contact with the family of Mr. Gerardo Germán Pineda, ‘El Búho’, and with his legal representatives, to handle the case in the best way and guarantee respect for all parties involved.” The promotion added that with the legal process ongoing, it would not provide additional information that could “interfere with or prejudice the facts.” “We ask the fans, media and members of the guild to act with prudence, discretion and respect, and avoid the spread of rumors or unconfirmed information, so as not to hinder the investigations and out of respect for all parties involved and their families,” it continued. The statement concluded, “We deeply regret the loss of a life and express our solidarity with his family, friends and colleagues in the wrestling business.”

Obtained by NY PostHe and Ingalls — who texted his fellow bros to walk into the room with Doe and “whip it out” — both ended up expelled after a private Cornell investigation found them responsible for sexual assault, while the others were variously suspended or suffered more minor punishments.But the local Tompkins County District Attorney’s Office declined to bring any charges against the brothers, citing a statement from Doe provided by campus police which they claimed never accused anyone of rape and also showed she willingly ingested the alcohol and drugs throughout the night.The case exploded onto the headlines in September, however, when Doe sued the seven fraternity brothers with rape and sexual assault allegations.Her suit included a damning alleged group chat among Chi Phi brothers where Newell allegedly wrote there was “free p—y” upstairs — allegedly meaning Doe — and encouraged each other to go upstairs and to “whip it out” and join in on the sex.It was that message which sparked the additional brothers filing upstairs and joining the sex, which Doe said amounted to rape. Keri Russell has shed some light on why her longtime partner Matthew Rhys did not mention her in his 2026 Emmy Awards acceptance speech. "I looked at him like a few days before, and I said, ‘Okay, well, can you articulate what you’re most nervous about?'" I know you love me.’" Rhys, 51, made history at the 2026 Emmys when he became the first man to win Lead Actor Awards in all three major categories — comedy, drama and limited series. At the 2026 Emmys, he took home the equivalent awards for comedy Widow's Bay and limited series The Beast in Me on the same night. Rhys seemed to be flustered as he accepted the Emmy for Widow's Bay, though he remembered to thank numerous collaborators, his parents, his sister and his home country. Some viewers later picked up on Rhys failing to mention or thank Russell as he stood on the stage at the Peacock Theater. Glen Powell doesn’t care to wade into the political landscape one bit. “Over time, I realized that politics divide people,” Powell, 37, revealed in an Esquire profile published Wednesday, October 8. “People trying to prove their point — for me, it’s the worst version of a conversation. I genuinely do not like the discourse. It’s not as healthy as it once was.” Because of the allegedly unhealthy politically-charged conversations, Powell states that it’s “not presently possible” to even engage in certain discussions. “I applaud people for jumping into those things and fighting for what they believe in,” he stated. “If I were a political person, I would be talking about it. For me, my calling is elsewhere.” Instead of activism, Powell is focused on his Hollywood career as both an actor and a screenwriter. “I want to bring people together over a common thing,” the Great Beyond star said of his career goals. “I believe in what I’m making, and I do work really, really hard to try to make sure that it’s something that audiences want. It’s not an easy thing to care so much.” While Powell finds joy in his film and TV projects, he has the complete support of his parents, his sisters and girlfriend Michelle Randolph. “Life is fast for both of us, and we have the same values,” the Chad Powers actor gushed to the outlet of Randolph, 29. “She loves her family, I love my family and we both care about work a lot. A Missouri high schooler was killed after being hit by a police car while authorities claimed she died in a hit-and-run accident, her devastated family claimed. Persephone Berger, 16, was lying in the road when she was struck by a St. Francois County Sheriff’s Office vehicle at around 3:45 a.m. Saturday, KMOV reported.Berger was heading to her Park Hills home after she had snuck out to a party the previous night when a witness found her in the road and reported the discovery to cops. Persephone Berger was killed Saturday after being hit by a cop car. Allison Berger / facebook“While approaching [the scene], the Deputy did not see the [girl] in the roadway and subsequently struck [her],” Sheriff Jeff Crites said in a statement.It’s unclear why Berger ended up in the road but her dad, Jarred Berger, was initially told by law enforcement his daughter died in a hit-and-run, according to her aunt, Kimberly Cabuchola.A preliminary autopsy found her injuries were “consistent with those sustained from the responding Deputy’s vehicle,” authorities said.Cabuchola admitted “accidents happen” and revealed she wouldn’t have been angry towards the driver, who is around 23 and had worked for the department for around three months, if the sheriff’s office had been transparent.“All they had to do was say ‘Our officer accidentally ran over your child and she died,’” the bewildered relative told KMOV. “That’s all they had to do. But no.”“To try and cover it up and to lie to our family? Why?  Why would they need to do that? While both he and his late father are known for their bold interactions with some seriously dangerous creatures , it was Jimmy Fallon that almost landed Robert in a sticky situation. I named this crocodile Jimmy Fallon, like, years ago, and he’s now what we call a boss croc. He’s huge. "Because we research crocodiles in the wild to, like, better conserve them, right? So the way you do that — my dad came up with this — is you actually have to jump on them." Robert revealed that after he "jumped on the back of Jimmy Fallon" in the name of work, the crocodile “death-rolled” him. He explained: "I jumped onto him. I kid you not, 14 foot of crocodile, big croc, death-rolls me. So I’m stuck underneath him with my arm hanging out. "I’ve got like probably, I don’t know, maybe 700 pounds on top of me. And I’m just like, ‘What do I do?’ And luckily he rolled back the other way, and I was fine. But he’s a goer." Thankfully Robert survived the ordeal, but such entanglements with wild animals seem to run in his blood. His father, Steve Irwin, spent his life trying to teach the public to respect and protect all animals, before his tragic death in September 2006, when a stingray barb pierced his chest and fatally injured his heart, while filming a documentary on the Great Barrier Reef. Though Robert was only two years old when he lost his father, the young man has worked hard to continue his legacy, alongside his mom - Steve's wife Teri Irwin - and his sister Bindi, who was eight when their dad died. "Chris Appleton, he literally gets stunned every time he hears that I am still not sexually active. It's crazy," she told the cameras in a confessional. "He talks about this like I have leprosy." Khloé's sister Kim Kardashian suggested she rekindle her connection — briefly — with an ex, but she replied, "My recycle list is such gutter. No one wants me to recycle my list. They are the bottom of the barrel.” While listening to details about Khloé's love life, Chris, 43, admitted he is worried. In response, Kris Jenner replied, "Why don't you sleep with her then?"
