Hayden Panettiere's Tragic Parallels to Brittany Murphy Revealed

Director Griff Furst, who worked with Hayden Panettiere before her death, sees parallels between the actress and late Uptown Girls star Brittany Murphy. “[Hayden] made me think of the similarities to Brittany Murphy, just in the sense that I made a movie with her about a year before she passed, and she too was a brilliant, incredibly gifted woman who got sucked into a dark place,” Furst, 44, said in an Instagram video on Monday, August 24. Murphy, who was best known for her breakout role as Tai Frasier in the 1995 teen comedy Clueless, died in her Los Angeles home at age 32 in December 2009 from untreated pneumonia combined with severe iron-deficiency anemia and multiple prescription and over-the-counter drug intoxication. Her death was ruled accidental. Five months later, in May 2010, Murphy’s husband, Simon Monjack, also died from acute pneumonia and severe anemia. (Furst was Murphy's costar in the Lifetime movie Tribute, which aired in April 2009.) “I've seen scores of people who have lost to substance, and on their way down, their loss was amplified by the company that they kept,” Furst continued on Monday, seemingly referring to Murphy’s husband, who denied that drug use had contributed to her death. “These tragedies seem to always be preceded by an identifiable pattern, which is the reason that I'm talking about this right now, because it's in the spotlight, and it's a moment where people, I think, are willing to take an honest assessment of the people that they care about and maybe break through and help somebody that feels trapped,” Furst concluded. In the caption, the filmmaker added, “Gone but never forgotten, Hayden♥️.” Hayden’s father, Skip Panettiere, confirmed the Heroes alum’s death on August 16. She was 36. “It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of our beloved Hayden. She was an incredible light and a force of nature who brought immeasurable love and joy to all who knew her — and to the millions who watched her onscreen,” Skip told Us in a statement at the time. “We ask for privacy as our family takes time to process this unimaginable loss.” The Greenville Police Department and Greenville County Coroner’s Office in South Carolina confirmed that officers responded to reports of an “unresponsive female” at an apartment complex, later identified as Hayden, and a possible “drug overdose. (Hayden was open about her struggles with drug and alcohol addiction prior to her death.) An autopsy found “no signs of trauma that would have contributed” to Hayden’s death, the coroner’s office told Us. The cause and manner of her death “remain pending further investigation and the completion of additional studies.” Furst worked with Hayden on her 2025 horror-comedy film A Breed Apart. One day after her death, the director took to Instagram to claim that the Nashville alum was “not OK” on set. “So I’m on set, and I get word from the movie’s security team who picked her up from the airport that something was off,” he recalled in the August 17 video. “I didn’t think much about it, and so I left set, and I walked over to greet her and her boyfriend, Brian [Hickerson]. He opened the door. Hayden was incredibly sweet and gracious and excited to work, but she was not OK.” Furst has also claimed that Hickerson, who had dated Hayden on and off since 2018 and admitted to domestic violence during their relationship, displayed controlling behavior while on set with the This Is Me: A Reckoning author. Hickerson was with Hayden when she died, leading to speculation about his potential involvement, though he has not been formally accused of wrongdoing. “Hayden’s death remains under investigation, and it is important to allow that investigation to proceed,” Hickerson’s attorney Sloan Ellis told Us on Thursday, August 20. “As has been publicly reported, police confirmed there were no signs of foul play. Out of respect for Hayden’s loved ones and the ongoing investigation, there will be no further comment at this time.”

She loves that climate, that weather.” During a recent Instagram Q&A, Peta, 40, was asked why she packed her bags and moved across the country. The former DWTS pro revealed that she’s always loved the lifestyle in Florida. “We fell in love with Boca because it kind of has everything [and] the best of everything,” she explained. “Really close to Miami, we have the beach, like, 11 minutes from my house, really top-rated schools, amazing sports for the boys, great lifestyle. Sandra Bullock is opening up about how her children, Louis, 16, and Laila, 12, each reacted to her late partner Bryan Randall’s battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Randall was diagnosed with the neurodegenerative disease in 2020 and died in August 2023 at age 57. Bullock, 62, shared on the Monday, August 24, episode of the “SmartLess” podcast that her son and daughter “could see” what was happening. “They’re very, very astute kids,” she said. “They not only see the physical change, there’s a behavior that changes in all of us,” the Oscar winner said. “I'm hypervigilant … I became manic in my vigilance,” she said, noting that she was not only looking after Randall but also responsible for hiring nurses to provide him in-home care. Bullock continued, “When I would bring things up to them, it was when they asked and when I could see them see it and ask them what it is that they want to do in this situation. ‘How do you want to handle what you just saw or where you are here?’” “Louis handled it very different than Laila,” she said. “About two years before Bryan passed, he saw it was a dynamic that wasn't healthy for him to be around. So, he's very evolved, he's like, ‘You know what, I'm here for you’ … but he chose to just sort of be there and support and help me on the things that were easy [for him]. But he smartly disengaged himself and said, ‘This is a safer space for me to sit,’ and I said, ‘Absolutely, you go. I got this.’” Laila, on the other hand, “was more bonded until about six months” before Randall’s death, said the Practical Magic 2 star. “And then she says, ‘Can you please say no when they call me over to go visit?’ and I said, ‘Absolutely, but if you do want to go visit, I will come with you and I will be right there and if you tap out, I'm right there.’” Bullock shared that she was “able to wall off a whole section” of her house with a different entrance for Randall and his care team because of the COVID-19 pandemic, which also made it easier for her kids to have space from the situation. The actress also revealed that Randall asked her not to share his diagnosis before his death, which “isolated me in the process.” “My sister [Gesine Bullock-Prado] was the only one who knew for a while,” Bullock said. “At first I go, ‘Oh, I can handle that. I can be quiet.’” “I think where he was in his journey, both physically and mentally, I started grieving Bryan four years before he passed,” she said of how she handled Randall’s diagnosis. “There was something that had shifted.” “My person left a lot earlier than the body left,” she added. “I don’t think I ever dealt with that until after he passed, because you’re just on this treadmill.”

As they face the pain of losing Zack, Johnny and Ellen are also carrying their own serious health struggles, including cancer, making this season even more overwhelming.” The donations from the GoFundMe, which has a goal of $20,000, will “go toward Zack’s funeral and burial expenses so his family can give him the proper farewell he deserves without the added weight of financial stress.” It has raised more than $6,000 at the time of publication. “Tammy is asking for prayers, kindness, and any monetary support you may be able to give on behalf of the family,” the message read. “Every donation, no matter the size, will help ease some of the burden during this devastating time and remind the Jaghab family that they are not facing this alone. Thank you for keeping Johnny, Ellen, and their loved ones in your thoughts and for supporting them with compassion and generosity.” No further details were shared regarding Styles’ death. In his obituary, a message noted that his family is holding a visitation at the Basilica of St. Mary Antiochian Orthodox Church in Livonia, Michigan on Tuesday, August 25. A burial will follow afterward at Glen Eden Memorial Park. Styles amassed more than 1.1 million followers on X, where he promoted his OnlyFans account. After news broke of his death, Styles was mourned by several other creators. “RIP Zach. You were such a sweet boy. This customer has big beef with Kroger.Kroger — a grocer typically known for its low price tags — was just called out for “robbing Americans blind” after a video went viral online showing the chain skimping out on steak. The video, which appears to have been removed or deleted from TikTok, was reposted by popular X account Wall Street Apes.The clip shows a Kroger shopper scooping up two packages of the store’s ground beef patties, which claim to be on sale. The package advertises a reduced price of $1.80 per pound at $3.60, which means there should be two pounds in each package.  The Kroger shopper claims the grocery store “scammed” him X / @WallStreetApesLooking a bit thin, the shopper picks up the meat and places it on the fruit scale where it’s revealed that the beef is less than a pound — a move that the poster calls “fraud.” The customer then placed both of the packages of ground beef on the scale and found that the weight was still under two pounds.He did this another time to be sure, and was stunned at the “scam” Kroger was allegedly pulling.According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average price of ground beef per pound is $6.89. The poster did its own research and found that the average price at Kroger is about $6 to $8 per pound, depending on the state. The user claims if it’s weighing under a pound but showing two pounds worth of price — it “only means that we are being robbed.”“That means the price marked is the discounted price; it’s not being discounted further. Recent reports now put beef prices at record highs due to the smallest US cattle herd in 75 years.Costs have gotten so high that President Trump recently announced plans to lift tariffs on beef imports for 90 days in hopes of bringing down already sky-high prices. Morena Baccarin is reuniting with husband Ben McKenzie — on screen — in season 2 of Sheriff Country. CBS announced on Monday, August 24, that McKenzie, 47, plays Sheriff Wade, a "neighboring sheriff who is called in to assist Mickey." The season 2 premiere will mark the first time the real-life couple will share the screen on the show. McKenzie previously spoke to Us about if he could see a scenario in which he would appear on the Fire Country spinoff, saying coyly in April, "I do." McKenzie said he enjoyed tuning in every week to see Baccarin's police procedural. "She's great. The kids love her show — or at least a couple of them do. We were watching the last two episodes last night," the actor, who shares three kids with Baccarin, shared. "It was a two-parter. It was a Sheriff Country and then a Fire Country [crossover]. And it's just awesome." The first season wrapped up in May with a shocking episode that revealed Deputy Director of the DEA — Eva (Rachel Ticotin) — as Mickey's mother who was presumed dead. "We're told in the pilot of season 1 that Mickey's mother is dead and it's quite clear she's dead. She's not part of the picture. One of the writers pitched it to me relatively early in season 1 [that she was secretly alive], and I dismissed it," showrunner Matt Lopez exclusively told Us at the time. "Over the course of the season, more and more writers started to get on board. I was a fairly late convert because I don't want to just turn over a card to turn over a card. If it gives us really good story and reveals something about the characters we care about and it's grounded in real human emotion then I'm interested."
